D Chord on Guitar (Major)

D major is a bright four-string chord used constantly in folk, country, and pop.

How to play it

  1. Place your 1st finger on the 2nd fret of the G (3rd) string.
  2. Place your 2nd finger on the 2nd fret of the high e (1st) string.
  3. Place your 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the B (2nd) string.
  4. Strum only the four thinnest strings.
Fingering tip: Press just behind the fret wire, not on top of it. If a note buzzes, add a little pressure or move closer to the fret.
