Am Chord on Guitar (Minor)

A minor is the sad-sounding partner of A major and shares its shape with E major moved down a string.

How to play it

  1. Place your 1st finger on the 1st fret of the B (2nd) string.
  2. Place your 2nd finger on the 2nd fret of the D (4th) string.
  3. Place your 3rd finger on the 2nd fret of the G (3rd) string.
  4. Strum from the A (5th) string down.
Fingering tip: Press just behind the fret wire, not on top of it. If a note buzzes, add a little pressure or move closer to the fret.

Practice loops

Play these slowly with one strum per beat. Loop each line for two minutes.

  • Am - F - C - G - the sensitive pop loop. Strum each chord four times, then change.
  • Am - Em - Am - Em - simple minor practice. Strum each chord four times, then change.
